Heywood Hardy (British, 1842-1933) The Yearlings Signed and dated "Heywood Hardy 1900" l. l., identified and registered "23351" on a label affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 25 x 30 in. (63.5 x 76.2 cm), framed. Condition: Scattered retouch, craquelure. Dashes and broad washes of retouch to sky. Spot of retouch to center left edge measuring 1-1/2 inches long and 1/4 in wide, probably to repair a frame abrasion. Very minor retouch to first horse in group at right, about a dozen small brushstrokes in all. Minimal retouch to lone horse on the left, 4 small brushstrokes in all. Craquelure mainly in the area of the trees across the center of the composition. Craquelure appears stable.
