Stoneware Jug with Incised Cobalt Bird Motif, probably Albany, New York, early 19th century, gallon-size ovoid jug, the side decorated with an incised stylized ring-neck bird perched on a leafy branch filled with cobalt blue, cobalt daubed handle terminals, (imperfections), ht. 11 in. 1 x 1/2 in. worn smooth mouth chip, with associated 1/2 x 1/2 and 1/3 x 1/3 in. chips; several faint spider lines around mouth neck and upper handle terminal, several small spidery lines and a couple shallow chips around the base edge, staining and age crazing to the glaze, the jug has a black tarry substance in it.
