Framed Washington Mourning Engraving, "T. Clark Sculpt. 1801 Boston," stipple engraving depicting the tomb of George Washington with weeping figures of a woman and a man, and Columbia with her arm upraised and an anchor beside her, above an inscription "Sacred to the Memory of the Illustrious G. Washington/T. Clarke, Sculpt. 1801, Boston.," 8 3/4 x 8 1/2 in., in a period, possibly original, string-inlaid wood frame, (toning, minor foxing, and small stains). Note: Affixed to the wood backing is a note from a previous owner, who reports that "this engraving was discovered in an attic in New Hartford in 1901...a copy of this was sold at auction by Davis & Harvey of Philadelphia, April 28, 1898, for $41."
