Theora Hamblett (American, 1893-1977) Cotton Pickers Signed and dated "T. Hamblett '53" l.r., also signed and inscribed "Theora Hamblett 619 Van Buren Oxford, Mississippi" on the reverse, with a label from the House of Heydenryk, New York affixed to the frame. Oil on canvasboard, 16 x 20 in. (40.6 x 50.8 cm), in a Heydenryk frame. Condition: Minor retouch, fine craquelure, surface grime. Provenance: Betty Parsons Gallery; private collection. Literature: Ed Meek and William S. Haynie, Theora Hamblett Paintings (Jackson: University Press of Mississippi, 1975), p. 30 (illus.). Dashes of retouch to abrasion in l.l. quadrant (over left figure) measuring approx. 1 1/2 in. length; craquelure; the canvasboard has not been trimmed; no additional condition issues to report.
