Michael Kelly (American, b. 1897) Auction at Ridgefield, Conn. Nov. 1966 Signed and dated "M. Kelly 66" l.r., titled, signed, and dated on the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 16 x 24 in. (40.6 x 61.0 cm), in a painted period frame. Condition: Minor surface grime. N.B. Kelly, born in rural Westchester, New York, was a graduate of the Pratt Institute of Fine and Applied Arts in 1921. He was not only an artist but an antique store owner, and the present work depicting an O. Rundle Gilbert auction is an expressive ethnography of his trade.
