Everett C. McNear (American, 1904-1984) Nudes in a Landscape Signed, inscribed, and dated "MCNEAR-PX-29" l.r., inscribed "McN" on the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 36 x 28 1/4 in. (91.2 x 71.5 cm), framed. Condition: Small puncture u.r., indentations, scattered paint losses, surface grime. Provenance: From a private Illinois collection. N.B. From 1932 to 1933, after graduating from the University of Minnesota, McNear took a "Grand Tour" of Europe. His letters and impressions while abroad were published as the memoir Young Eye Seeing in 1956. The present work was likely inspired by his time in France, where he studied with Louis Marcoussis and Erle Loran. We wish to thank the artist's son for his assistance cataloguing the lot.
