Maynard -1909-" l.r., inscribed "National Academy of Design Winter Exhibition 1909" on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 36 x 72 in. (91.4 x 182.9 cm), framed. Condition: Retouch, patch reinforcements, craquelure. Provenance: Through a Cape Ann estate. Exhibitions: Winter Exhibition, National Academy of Design, December 11 to January 9, 1910, no. 246. N.B. Violet Heming was an Anglo/American Broadway stage actress and wife of former Missouri State Senator Bennett Champ Clark. Her professional scrapbook accompanies the lot. Two patch reinforcements with resulting retouch to l.l. quadrant (approx. 2 x 4 1/2 in. at extreme height and width) and to l.r. quadrant (approx. 1 x 1 in. at extreme height and width); varnish stains to the reverse; varnish inconsistencies; craquelure throughout; circular cracking; no additional condition issues to report.
