Annie (Nanna) Bolton (née Matthews) Bryant (American, 1871-1933) The Embrace Signed "N. M. Bryant sc." within the cast and foundry stamped "GORHAM CO. FOUNDERS.. OAPL" on the base. Bronze with dark brown patina, 12 1/2 x 10 3/4 x 6 1/2 in. (31.8 x 27.3 x 16.5 cm). Condition: Minor surface grime. N.B. Boston-born Nanna Matthews Bryant attended the Museum School for painting instruction between 1895 to 1896, and between 1903 to 1906. It was not until 1912 that Bryant adopted sculpture as her preferred medium, working in a manner emulative of Auguste Rodin. (1) (1) Margaret C.
