Printed and Freehand-decorated Folding Screen, America, 19th century, two-part wood-framed screen with paint and colored varnishes on paper, central hand-painted scene of a man setting out to hunt carrying his flintlock rifle with his game pouch slung over his shoulder, with a large tree in the foreground amidst a hilly tree-lined landscape with a green-shuttered house in the background, surrounded by polychrome floral, foliate, and marbled wallpaper borders, (imperfections), 75 x 48 in. , overall. Scattered moisture stains, several scattered tears and small losses, to the paper, mostly to the lower edge, (the paper is applied to a loosely woven hemp or linen backing sandwiched between blue-colored paper applied to the other side. Two large leafy areas on the large foreground tree was painted on paper, cut out, and applied to the paper originally in the making.
