Scott, Winfield (1786-1866), Autograph letter signed, three pages, Washington, November 4th, 1852, to C. H. Andrus, answering his query about his religion and commenting that religion and politics should not be mixed and while stating his faith as a Protestant Episcopalian acknowledged a lapse "during some fifteen months when between 18 & 20 years old, I was an infidel," 8vo, (minor staining, old rust spot, good overall).
