Greek Provincial Red Figure Pelike, likely southern Italy, 4th century B. C.E., the obverse side decorated with Zeus receiving Herakles, the reverse with three athletes, with palmettes beneath the handles, ht. 15 in. Note: A letter dated December 26, 1894, discussing the vase was passed down through the family and accompanies the lot. With old, crude repair to rim and upper section. Discoloration to rim.
