English, circa 1830. Mahogany wood writing lap desk contained within a rectangular lidded box with brass mounted top with pierced decoration of scrolled foliates surrounding an oval form medallion. Hinged sloped lid to leather top writing desk surface within. Leather top with gold border decoration. Leather tops lift to reveal additional storage below. Five storage compartments at bottom of writing desk to hold writing instruments. Three with tops (some with damage). Height 7 inches, width 19.8 inches, depth 10.25 inches. According to the consignor, purchased in October of 1991. Provenance: From the Estate of Mr. Thomas V. and Mrs. Marie B. Patton, Atlanta, Georgia.
