Three Transfer-decorated Staffordshire Pottery Children's ABC Plates, England, early 19th century, all with a raised alphabet around the rim, two with black transfer designs and polychrome highlights: one depicting two boys teasing a sleeping traveler, impressed "ELLSMORE & SON ENGLAND" on the bottom, one admonishing "A Rolling Stone Gathers NO Moss"; and a plate with green transfer decoration depicting a man admonishing a sleeping boy not to "Squander Time," (imperfections), dia. 6 5/8-7 1/8 in. teasing boys- 1/2 in rim chip, glaze wear with brown stains around rim and cavetto; Rolling stone-slight bown tone at center; Squander- light brown toned, tiny chips on letter L.
