Elkington Inlaid Steel and Silver Wall Plaque, c. 1878, unmarked, likely for the 1878 Paris International Exhibition, repousse decoration to center of a scene of "Love Brought to Reason," depicting Cupid bound to a statue of Minerva before a teasing maiden, within wide border of cherubs and trophies, with gold or brass inlay, dia. 21 3/4 in. Note: Listed in the Illustrated Catalogue of the Paris Exhibition , as being a highlight of Elkington's offerings. The execution of the piece is attributed to A. W. Willms, and the design is identified as being after a painting by the French artist R. Prudhon. good. unmarked.
