Five Piece Modern Italian Sterling Tea and Coffee Service, Calegaro, Italy, designed by Massimo Vignelli, retailed by Shreve, Crump & Low, comprising lighthouse shaped coffeepot, teapot, covered sugar, and cylindrical creamer, all with vertical fluting, lids with reeded spherical finials, with reeded ear handles, coffeepot ht. 9 in., with matching oval salver with conforming fluted rim, lg. 17 1/2, wd. 13 3/4 in., approx. 97.8 troy oz. total. Note: Massimo Vignelli was born in Milan in 1931. In the late 1950s he came to the United States on a fellowship with Towle Silversmiths. He later established the firms of "Vignelli Office of Design and Architecture" in Milan, and "Vignelli Associates and Vignelli Design" in New York. His work includes graphic design, interiors, and decorations for prominent Continental and American companies. very good.
