(European Grand Tour, 19th century), Minturn, Robert Bowne (1805-1866), Manuscript diary signed, December 29, 1848-June 4th, [1849], pictorial boards with watercolor vignette of armorials and flags, the journey filled with accounts of travel in Italy, and with small sketches of flags, armorials, and ending with an eagle and shield, 6 x 4 1/4 in. , (chipped and worn binding). Note: While one of the most important American merchants of the 19th century, Minturn is best known as one of the owners of the celebrated clipper ship The Flying Cloud .
