Jim Morrison, An American Prayer Book, "(copyright) James Douglas Morrison, 1970, All Rights Reserved," gilt lettered stiff paper boards, (cover edge chipping, minor imperfections), 4 7/8 x 4 in. Provenance: The consignor, a South Miami local and student at the University of Miami, attended the infamous Doors concert at the Dinner Key Auditorium where Jim Morrison was subsequently arrested after a riot broke out. By chance meeting at the Miami courthouse, Jim Morrison and the consignor spent the next day together. First coming to her apartment for dinner with friends, part of the group went on for a quiet evening in Coconut Grove. The consignor and Jim Morrison went later to the Carillon Hotel at Miami Beach where he was staying. Spending the remaining night talking and sharing a mutual interest in poetry, Jim Morrison made this copy of his book of poetry a gift to the consignor and drove her home the next day. He called her a couple of times later, while awaiting his court hearings, hoping they would be able to meet, but their schedules prevented that from happening.
