James Doull Mahogany Tall Clock, Charlestown, Massachusetts, c. 1805, case attributed to Thomas Seymour, the pierced fret hood with free-standing columns flanking the painted iron dial inscribed James Doull, Charlestown , Roman numerals, Federal shields and raised gilded scroll spandrels, concave scene in the arch depicting a windmill with rocking ship flying an American flag moving with pendulum motion, rectangular waist door with flame mahogany panels enclosed with figured banding and flanked by reeded quarter columns and flame birch plinths, the base with banded, line, and segmented inlays on French feet, eight-day time and strike movement with two painted tin-cased weights and pendulum, ht. 96 in. Case refinished, French feet are the original, dial is original and undisturbed including signature, slight paint lossed on rocking ship, fret top is the remains of the original, center plinth and finals are replacements, original red-painted weights and pendulum.
