Renaissance-style Gilt-bronze Covered Chalice, France or Italy, second half 19th century, the finial cast as St. George slaying the dragon, the whole chased and embossed, over cover with arabesque designs filled with grotesques, the circular rim with four outset semicircles supporting pendant putti, over quatrefoil body decorated with cloudwork and vining tendrils, supported by urn-form standard adorned with four putti monopodia, on circular stepped base mounted on marble, total ht. 14 1/2 in. Scattered loss and darkening to gilt. No evidence of repairs.
