American School, 19th Century PENNSYLVANIA HOSPITAL . Unsigned, titled below. Charcoal and pastel on sandpaper, 19 1/2 x 28 1/2 in., in a period molded giltwood frame. Condition: Minor foxing, otherwise good. Note: Founded in 1751 by Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Bond, the Pennsylvania Hospital was America's first hospital. Located in Center City, Philadelphia, it was also home to the first surgical amphitheatre and first medical library in America.
