Frank Albert Philips (American, 1835-1903) Seated Young Boy at Play Signed and dated "F. A. Philips/1881" l.r., inscribed "Painted by F.A. Philips..." on a paper affixed to the reverse. Oil on academy board, 7 5/8 x 10 3/8 in. (19.5 x 26.5 cm), framed. Condition: Fine, stable craquelure, mild surface grime. The paper affixed to the reverse appears to be an excerpt from "The Gentleman's Magazine" of August, 1877, describing an exhibition at The Royal Academy in London of that same year. The ink inscription on the paper gives the artist's address as "...10 Hanover Place, Park Lane, Leeds." No additional condition issues to report.
