Paint-decorated "FRANKLIN FIRE SOCIETY" Leather Fire Bucket, Charlestown, Massachusetts, early 19th century, the fire bucket depicting a spreadwing eagle beneath flames and plumes of smoke, grasping a banner inscribed "FRANKLIN FIRE SOCIETY" over another banner inscribed with the owner's name, "BENJAMIN G. BLANCHARD," over the date "1830," and "Charlestown" inscribed in yellow on the back along the seam, on a black-painted ground with red-painted collar and handle, accompanied by a carte-de-visite of the owner, identified "Benjamin Goodwin Blanchard aged 51" in inscriptions on the back, (scattered paint loss with retouch, varnished, tear on bottom), ht. to top of collar 12 1/2 in.
