Fabretti, Raffaele (1619-1700) De Aquis et Aquaeductibus Veteris Romae Dissertationes Tres . Rome: Bussotti, 1680. First edition, quarto, engraved hedgehog vignette on title, numerous text engravings throughout, including some that take up a full page integral to the typographical text, three folding engraved maps, this copy a duplicate from the Vatican Apostolic Library, with stamps inside the front board, and on the versos of the title page and last page of text, bound in full parchment of the period over boards, turn-ins lifting, title in brown in ink on the spine, some intermittent browning of text leaves, generally good, 9 1/4 x 6 in. Fabretti was the first archaeologist and ancient Roman aqueduct hunter to compose a scholarly treatise on the subject.
