Shaker Oak and Maple Bench, first half 19th century, the rectangular plank top with chamfered lower edge on splayed, turned, swelled, tapering legs, (minor imperfections), ht. 23 7/8, top 22 1/2 x 16 1/4 in. This is one of a number of sturdy benches that the Andrewses located in their frquent searches through Shaker workshops. The legs on this bench are very subtly turned, with scribe marks highlighting the swells. The legs are mortised into the top and splayed for stability. See Lot 20 in this sale for another example.
