Thomas Worsfold Gilt Pair-cased Watch with Zacheus Gates Paper, Hampton Wick, No. 514, c. 1775-90, the hinged outer case opens to the porcelain Arabic numeral dial with brass hands and bull's-eye crystal, dust cover signed by maker as movement, full plate gilt verge- escapement movement engraved Thos. Worsfold, Hampton Wick, No. 514 with chain fusee, fully chased balance cock and diamond endstone, five-arm flat steel balance and silvered regulation dial, together with a printed watch paper signed Zac. Gates Clock & Watchmaker*Charlestown , 55 mm. Note: Zacheus Gates, a likely apprentice of Aaron Willard in Boston, made tall shelf and wall timepieces with known examples in the J. Cheney Wells Collection of New England Clocks at Old Sturbridge Village. Like other clockmakers of his time, he also repaired watches.
