Group of Garth Huxtable Decorative Items including a white-painted hanging shelf, a black-painted rack, and three stands, ht. to 17 1/2, dia. to 15 in. Provenance: Property from the estate of Ada Louise Huxtable, formerly architecture critic of the New York Times. L. Garth Huxtable (1911-1989), the husband of Ada Louise Huxtable, was a noted industrial designer. With his wife, he designed over 140 items for the Four Seasons Restaurant in the landmark Seagrams building in New York. The results were so successful that the Museum of Modern Art selected eighteen pieces for their permanent collection. Along with modernist furniture, Garth Huxtable designed practical household items for their Marblehead summerhouse including a simple spoon rack.
