Hayes Administration White House China Leaf-shaped Serving Dish, designed by Theodore R. Davis, made by Haviland & Co., Limoges, France, c. 1880, the dish with hand-painted enamel overglaze landscape with a bird perched in a tree with setting sun in the distance, with gilt highlights, the underside of the rim with polychrome Great Seal of the United States, the bottom with maker's marks including two Haviland & Co. marks, designer's name, patent date "Aug. 10 1880," and design "No. 11934," (rim repairs), dia. 9 1/4 in.
