Sterling Silver American Yacht Club Trophy Bowl, New York, c. 1934, circular, on conforming foot, with engraved inscription, "American Yacht Club · Annual Cruise · Commodores Cup · Won by Istalena · August 8 1934," to frieze, dia. 9 1/8 in., approx. 25.2 troy oz. N.B. Istalena was a New York Yacht Club M class sloop designed by L. Francis Herreshoff in 1928. George M. Pynchon commissioned her from Herreshoff, but William J. Strawbridge owned her by the 1934 season. Although the popularity of the M class was short-lived, Istalena dominated the field.
