William Cummens Mahogany Tall Clock with Rocking Ship Automaton, Roxbury, Massachusetts, c. 1800, the fret-top case with reeded plinths and brass finials, reeded freestanding columns flanking the glazed hood door over the 12-in. painted iron Roman numeral dial signed William Cummens, Roxbury , with Federal shields in the corners and rocking ship flying the American flag automaton in the arch against a rocky coast scene with a windmill, rectangular waist door with banded and line inlays flanked by reeded columns, and printed directions for setting up a clock inside, base with similar inlay treatment and short bracket-foot base with scalloped apron, eight-day brass movement with pendulum and two tin-cased weights, ht. 96 in. Note: The backboard of this clock is stamped "IS" which an informed source states was the mark of Israel Sack from 1927-1929.
