Sailor-made Watercolor and Shellwork Framed Valentine, probably France, c. 1830, with a circular watercolor half-length portrait of a French military officer within a leafy border, all surrounded by an elaborate shellwork design of two hearts on a pedestal flanked by vases of flowers, sight size 6 x 7 3/4 in., in likely original gilt-gesso frame with cornucopias issuing flowers on vines, (some shells loose under glass, watercolor slightly toned, losses to frame).
