Teotihuacan Carved Stone Mask, c. 450-650 A.D., with delicately carved features in white stone, collected before 1970, 5 1/8 x 4 1/2 in. Provenance: James Sachs Plaut (1912-1996), founder and first director of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. During World War II, Plaut directed the Art Looting Investigation Unit for the United States Government, the group known as the "Monuments Men."
