Henri Fantin-Latour (French, 1836-1904) Un morceau de Schumann , 1864, published by Cadart & Luquet, Paris. Signed, dated, and identified within the plate, publisher's dry stamp l.c. Etching on heavy laid paper with "AQUA FORTISTES" watermark, plate size 7 3/8 x 11 in. (18.8 x 27.5 cm) unmatted, unframed. Condition: Margins over 3 inches with deckled edges to all but the top, toning, pale soiling, and foxing to margins. Provenance: M. Roy Fisher, New York; by family descent to the present owner. N.B. The work depicts a duet between artist Edwin Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth Ruth Escombe Edwards. Fantin-Latour stayed with the couple at least twice while they lived in Sunbury-on-Thames.
