Henry François Farny (American, 1847-1916) Girl in Dutch Costume, Possibly Alice in Wonderland . Signed "Farny" and with the artist's symbol beneath the signature, a label from Getz-Brown, Art Materials, Painting, Picture Framing, Cincinnati, on the frame backing paper. Gouache and ink on paper, sight size 9 1/2 x 7 in., framed (without glass). Condition: Foxing, subtle rippling, not examined out of frame. N.B. Early in his career as an artist, Henry Farny was fascinated by exotic subjects. Between 1874 and 1880, he traveled and studied abroad. In 1879, he worked as a book illustrator for the McGuffey Reader series. This drawing probably came from that period.
