Jizhou Tea Bowl, China, Song dynasty, with slightly rounded sides and inward tapering rim, resting on a low bisque foot, the interior decorated with cutout design of jumping deer and plants in dark chocolate glaze over a lighter mottled glaze ground, the exterior mottled in two-tone glazes for tortoiseshell effect, crackling, with a conforming box, ht. 2 1/4, dia. 4 3/8 in. Note: Available is a Termoluminescence Analysis Report issued in 2002 by the Oxford Authentication Ltd. It states that "it was estimated that the date of last firing was between 700 and 1200 years ago."
