Hanging Scroll Thangka, Tibet, depicting Mahakala standing on a lotus throne before a flame mandorla, adorned with skulls and heads as well as a crown with five skulls, accompanied with his numerous manifestations and other deities with two lama figures seated above, all against a landscape setting with flowers, mountains, and clouds, distemper on canvas, gilt details, painting 21 3/4 x 16 1/4 in. Provenance: Purchased in Beijing at the turn of the century when the current owner's grandmother was stationed at the Princeton University Alumni organized YMCA outpost, as reported in The Princeton Alumni Weekly , Vol. XIV No. 18, February 11, 1914.
