Lucas van Leyden (Dutch, 1494-1533) Two Images from THE PASSION , 1521: The Mocking of Christ (Bartsch, 45); and Christ Crowned with Thorns (Bartsch, 49). Both monogrammed and dated within the plate, both with collector's stamp l.c. (see below). Engravings on paper, plate sizes 4 5/8 x 2 7/8 in. (11.7 x 7.3 cm), framed. Condition: Trimmed to plate marks, gentle toning and rippling. Provenance: From the collection of Baron Adrien Évrard François Joseph Wittert (Liège, 1824-1903) by bequest to the Library of the University of Liège (Lugt, 205); through to a New York City estate.
