Inscribed Creamware Table Jug, England, c. 1773, probably Staffordshire in the manner of William Greatbatch, of bulbous form with an ear-shaped loop handle and press-molded spout depicting a bearded man, polychrome enamel-decorated, one side with a drapery border above a scene with gentleman seated and smoking a long pipe, the reverse with a house in a fenced landscape, below the spout and within a foliate framed cartouche inscribed "Joseph Cook 1773," ht. 6 1/2 in. Provenance: Jonathan Horne. Literature: Similar illustrated in William Greatbatch - A Staffordshire Potter , by Barker, plate 119.
