Extensive Cartier Silver-plate Tableware Service, early 20th century, all marked "Cartier," each with an engraved monogram "ESE" with a Louis XVI-style shaped and reeded edge, comprising of twenty pieces of hollowware: six salt cellars with glass liners, four shakers, three trays (two lg. 20 1/4, one 18 1/4 in.), three vegetable dishes, two gravy boats with attached undertray and interior liner, a water pitcher, and a covered tureen with warming stand and burner; and one hundred and fifty pieces of flatware, comprising of twelve each: dinner forks, hollow dinner knives, luncheon forks, hollow luncheon knives, soupspoons, place spoons, iced-tea spoons, salad forks, spreaders, teaspoons, coffee spoons, and demitasse spoons, three serving spoons, three serving forks; together with eight pieces of sterling silver flatware, six with applied gold monogram: dinner fork, hollow dinner knife, luncheon fork, hollow luncheon knife, place spoon, and solid spreader, two with gold element removed: place spoon and soupspoon, approx. 11.7 troy oz. total weighable silver. N.B. The reversible monogram "ESE" and pattern of the service resembles that of Edward Stotesbury, who in 1929 ordered 1,450 pieces of monogrammed sterling silver as well as a silver-plated set of 3,958 pieces from Cartier.
