Austrian School, 19th Century Czernowitz Signed indistinctly "G. Schw..." on mat l.r., titled on a presentation plaque. Gouache on paper, 7 3/4 x 10 1/8 in. (19.6 x 25.7 cm), framed under glass. Condition: Paper is affixed to hand colored paper mat at four corners with full sheet in view, small tears and creases to paper mat, not examined out of frame. N.B. Czernowitz is located in what is now Western Ukraine. Until 1775, the city was part of the Principality of Moldavia, then entered a period of renewed growth when it was annexed by the Habsburg Empire that year.
