Augustus Romaldus Wright's Toiletry Box and Images, c. mid-19th century, elaborate mahogany case with a silver escutcheon on the top marked Augustus Wright with foliate designs, and a silver plate around the keyhole marked 1858 , and a drawer below the keyhole, inside the lid is a mirror, box contains two side compartments: marked PERFUMERY , the other FANCY SOAP , the central compartment with six small compartments, the main compartment contains daguerreotypes, and ambrotypes, some civilians and some soldiers, including one of Wright, ht. 8 3/8, wd. 9 1/2, lg. 16 in. Note: Augustus Romaldus Wright (1813-1891) was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1856, serving from 1857-59, he also served as a delegate to the Georgia, as well as the Confederate Secession Convention. He was offered the position of provisional governor of Georgia by President Abraham Lincoln, but declined and became colonel of the 38th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Army of Northern Virginia.
