Victor Burgin (American, b. 1941) Triptych: Double Portrait Photograph and Two Paintings Signed and titled "Victor Burgin 1987" on verso center panel. Three panels comprised of a double portrait gelatin silver print and plastic laminate film on panel, 48 3/4 x 56 3/4 inches, a bird and diamond oil on panel, 48 3/4 x 24 1/2 in., and a red oil on panel, 48 3/4 x 12 3/4 in., all three framed. Condition: Good. N.B. In 1986, conceptual artist Victor Burgin created a series of triptychs titled Office at Night Series inspired by the iconic Edward Hopper painting of the same name. In this series he explores the politics of gender relations in a decidedly patriarchal society. In an essay written by Burgin entitled "The Separateness of Things," the artist discusses the impetus behind the series and shares some of his thoughts on the politics of Hopper.1 This 1987 double portrait of Mr. Stone and a woman in an office was likely commissioned in response to this popular series. 1.
