Alexei M. During the 1950s he worked on engines for surface-to-air missiles and air-to-sea missiles. This engine is for a S-75 Dvina, a high-altitude, command-guided surface-to-air missile. This model has become known worldwide as the missile that shot down the U-2 spy plane of Francis Gary Powers while he was flying over the Soviet Union on May 1, 1960.
