Folio, rebound in later mottled calf over marbled boards, gilt-lettered spine label and gilt-stamped call-number to spine, marbled endpapers, engraved head-pieces. First edition. With eight (of nine) fold-out maps. Lacking title page, frontispiece, portrait, one map and preliminary blank leaves. Light marginal dampstaining; corner torn on p. 405; closed tear p. 413; stamp to first page of dedication; otherwise interior is in good condition and maps are very fine with no tears and little browning.
