Document signed ("Abraham Lincoln"), as President, July 26, 1861. Counter-signed by William H. Seward as Secretary of State. One page, folio, red seal faded in lower left corner. Appointment of Asa O. Colby as Deputy Postmaster at Holyoke in the State of Massachusetts. Framed with a portrait photograph of Lincoln. Even toning to edges of page; creases from folds; original paper seal faded; very minor chip to top edge and left edge; otherwise fine with bold signature. Accompanied by a copy of a letter from John A. Lupton, Associate Director of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, attesting to the authenticity of the signature and stating that a copy of said appointment has been located in the National Archives in College Park, Maryland.
