Edited by John Russell McCarthy. Los Angeles: Powell, 1928-1930. 9 vols. 8vo, full calf stamped in gilt with gilt-stamped bear to front covers and titles stamped in gilt to spines, marbled endpapers. One of 387 copies of the Deluxe Edition of nine volumes specially bound for private subscribers. Each volume with the autographs of California pioneers important to the area of study or historical account retold. Autographs include that of the last surviving member of the Donner Party, Isabella M. Breen McMahon, the "Covered Wagon Babies" (individuals who were born on the trail in '48, '49, and the '50's), the Pony Express rider who carried to California President Lincoln's first message to Congress and other original autographs of California pioneers, including George Chaffee. Minor wear to boards with some chipping to spine heads; otherwise fine.
