A handwritten diary, entitled "A Journal of Events from the Time I Enlisted Up to the Present. " 96pp. Dated June 17, 1861 - January 22, 1862. Hayes enlisted in Chicago and was active in Missouri and Kentucky. This diary appears to be a rewritten compilation of several diaries kept while on the field. Large 8vo, decorative cloth. Lacks spine; signatures loose; boards edgeworn; stamps on endpapers; otherwise sound. Transcription available on request.
