Cleveland, OH: Geo. M. Rewell & CO., 1887 First Edition. 8vo. 1141 pp. With an introductory sketch of the author by Rev. Henry M. Turner. Bound in the publisher's green cloth, with gilt lettering and black floral decoration to the spine and front board. Illustrated throughout with numerous black-and-white portraits. The spine ends and corners are slightly worn, there is some light spotting on the rear board, and a contemporary signature has been inked on the front paste-down; the hinges have been professionally reinforced and the spine ends have been restored.The work includes biographies of Frederick Douglass, Crispus Attucks, Preston Taylor, Alexander Dumas, Henry McNeal Turner, Nat Turner, and scores of others.
