An original scale model trebuchet created and filmed for the production of The Lord of the Rings trilogy (New Line Cinema, 2001, 2002, 2003). An integral part of the production of the epic trilogy was the creation of incredibly detailed, filming miniatures, allowing for the seamless integration of live action, CGI and miniature effects work. This trebuchet was built for the 1/72 scale filming miniature of Minas Tirith, the capital city of Gondor, and the original home of the Kings of Men. Trebuchets, such as this, were used in defense against the armies of “Sauron” during the climatic Siege of Gondor in Return of the King.
