A Selmer 470 bore Claude Gordon trumpet prototype. Serial Number “006." This trumpet was the final prototype Claude Gordon approved for his personal trumpet series with Selmer. This prototype remained in Claude’s possession since his approval. Claude originally helped design custom versions of the Benge trumpet with a 468 bore trumpet. However, since Benge refused to produce a 470 bore trumpet, which Gordon considered to be the ideal size, he then designed the Selmer 470 bore Claude Gordon trumpet. This exact trumpet can been seen on the promotional brochure produced by Selmer when the trumpet was first released; the “006” serial number can clearly be seen on the trumpet photographed. Included in this lot is an original brochure annotated by Gordon himself detailing the exact measure of the different parts. Also included in this lot is a fully executed contract between Gordon and Selmer Company for the production of the Claude Gordon trumpet, mailed to Gordon after its completion.
