A one page typed letter from Ronald Reagan to Phyllis Diller, signed in ink "Ronald Reagan," on White House letterhead, and dated October 4, 1985. In the letter President Reagan congratulates Diller on being honered by the New York Friars Club and writes, in part, "'thank you' on behalf of everyone who needed a good laugh and got a million of them from you." Together with a telegram from President Reagan to Diller, dated "7/15/87," wishing Diller a happy birthday, and reading in part, "I understand that my good friend, Bob Hope, will be readig this, so I will abandon any attempt at humor -- that is, if he will abandon any attempt at running the country..."
